Measurement Chart

The formula for measuring yourself is not written in tablets of stone. It is the first stage towards choosing the best size bra for you.

Click here to link to the Bravado Designs Maternity Measurement Chart

First measure your rib cage in inches under the root of your breast, keeping the tape measure quite tight. If this measurement is an even number add 4 inches if it is an odd number add 5 inches

Example (a) if you measure 32'', add 4'' and your bra size is 36.
Example (b) if you measure 33'', add 5'' and your bra size is 38.

Step 2 to find your cup size.

Now while wearing your best fitting bra measure gently over the cups at the fullest part of your breast.
The difference between the bra size and the cup measurement determines the cup size

Example (a) if this measurement is 41'' subtract 36 (your bra size) from 41'' this equals 5'' which means your bra is 36 with a DD cup.

Example (b) if this measurement is 41'' subtract 38 (your bra size) from 41'' this equals 3'' which means your bra is 38 with a C cup.

When you try on your new bra, lean well forward and allow your breasts to drop into the cups; the wires should fit neatly under the root of your breasts.

Now look in the mirror:

Are your breasts sitting neatly in the cups? Is the back just right? Well done: Right first time. You are in the fortunate minority for whom the formula works.

Are the cups of the bra loose? You may need to try a smaller cup, e.g. 36C down to 36B.

Is the back too tight, but the cups fit well? You need to try one back size larger and one cup size smaller e.g. 36C change to 38B. The volume contained by the cups is exactly the same in both bras, but you have a little more room around your back.

Is the back too loose, but the cups fit well? Try a back size smaller and a cup size larger, e.g. change 38B to 36C. Once again the cups in both sizes are the same volume

Does the back fit well but your breasts overfill the cups? Try the same back size with a bigger cup size, e.g.36C to 36D or 36DD (according to volume).
